The Old City, Temple Bar will stage a number of youth community performances as part of Dublin Culture Night 2011.  Axis:Ballymun and ‘Noise South Dublin’, Tallaght, will present an eclectic mix of the music, song and dance being created and performed by young people.

axis:Ballymun are bringing together a group of young people to Temple Bar to perform original material for Culture Night 2011, showcasing a selection of their best work from axis youth arts projects. Performing outdoors in the Old City, a group of 15 young people (aged 15 – 22 years) will perform original songs, music, spoken word and dance.

MaSamba Samba School and Youth Dance Groups

Sphere 17 Youth Service covers the Dublin 17 area of Dublin, comprising of Darndale, Clonsaugh, Priorswood and Donnybrook communities. This talented group have been working hard on a routine for ‘The Boys Are Back In Town’ to celebrate the life of Phil Lynott, it being 25 years since his death.

The Seen & Heard Carnival Group is a collaboration between MaSamba Samba School and Bradóg Regional Youth Service, and a dynamic group of young people from the Dublin 7 area. This group’s choreography represents the Thin Lizzy classic ‘Jailbreak’ and will be performed to complete this walk through the streets of Temple Bar.

South Dublin County Council’s ‘NOISE South Dublin’ programme promotes youth arts groups based in the County.  In collaboration with Temple Bar Cultural Trust, NOISE are delighted to present the Dizzy Footwork Dance Academy as part of Dublin Culture Night celebrations, 2011. ‘Solus Street Art’

Drawing on the theme of Unity & Equality Solus Street Art invites the public to take part in an outdoor street art installation created especially for Dublin Culture Night.  From 5 – 8pm, Solus Street Art, assisted by TBCT’s Scene Not Herd group – will facilitate the public to make their own mark on a communal street art piece providing you with stencils and spray paint. www.facebook.com/solus.art

Akidwa Choir Performance

The aim of this choir is to put a smile on the faces of all who listen to them!  Akina Dada wa Africa (AkiDwA; Swahili for sisterhood) is made up of 8 women from various backgrounds and they sing and entertain so as to promote the culture of African and migrant women living in Ireland.

Akidwa is celebrating its 10th Anniversary from 12 – 23 September and we are delighted to share a performance with them as part of Culture Night on the last day of their anniversary celebrations.  For more information on all Akidwa celebratory events taking place www.akidwa.ie

Tallaght Youth Band

Marching Vikings are taking to the streets of Temple Bar for Dublin Culture Night.  Established since 1977, the bands’ members are from Tallaght and surrounding areas and feature musicians
and performers age 6 years and upwards!

Outdoor Screening presented by Arts & Disability Ireland: ‘Motion Disabled’

Children’s Art Jam

While you’re walking from gallery to gallery – why not paint your own masterpiece on Curved Street, Temple Bar?  Children of all ages are invited to pick up a paint brush
and paint canvases on the easels provided at the outdoor Children’s Art Jam.

An introduction to Flamenco through Sevillanas
And what are Sevillanas?! They’re a traditional Andalusian dance sharing some elements with flamenco.
Sevillanas are danced in couples or pairs and are an excellent introduction to Flamenco – the real “fiesta” dance!

 

You will learn about flamenco rhythm, how to do flamenco clapping and even try a few dance steps! Everyone is welcome to join. The focus is on the rhythm and clapping as well as an introduction to basic dance steps and arm movements.  www.flamencoindalo.com
