Mionamharclann - Cití Cailleach, scríofa ag Valerie Thomas
Agus é in a chónaí i Devon i Sasana luath sna 1900í, bhain Jack B. Yeats sásamh as an bpaisean a bhí aige i mionamharclann do pháistí agus léirigh sé sraith iomlán de dhrámaí le foghlaí mara, fir mara agus líon mór carachtair shorcais. Rinne sé dian thaifead ar na léirithe seo i leabhair nótaí, le nótaí dearadh seit agus le carachtair tarraingthe i ndúch agus in uiscedhathanna ar chairtchlár, le scripteanna scríofa i ndúch glas. Chuir sé siamsaíocht ar fáil do pháistí i Devon, áit a raibh sé in a chónaí ag an am (1897-1910), leis na drámaí seo. Tá an Model, i gcomhar leis an Roinn Taibhealaíona in IT Sligigh tar éis macasamhail den mhionamharclann atá le feiceáil sa bpictiúr cáiliúil The Toy Theatre (1906) le Jack B Yeats, a ceannaíodh don Niland Collection i 1964 a athchruthú. Bígí linn sa Model ar Oíche Chultúir agus éistigí le scéal greannmhar na caillí dána, Cití Cailleach, ar bhreá léi gach rud a bhfuil dath dubh air, ach a bhfuil fadhbanna aici lena cat dubh Smúróg! 5 – 11 bhliain. Miniature Theatre – The tale of Cití Cailleach written by Valerie Thomas
While living in Devon in the early 1900s, Jack B Yeats freely indulged his passion in miniature theatre for children; producing a whole series of plays featuring pirates, sea farers and a legion of circus characters. He carefully documented these miniature theatre productions, compiling notebooks full of set design notes, watercolour and ink cardboard cut-out characters, illustrated by play-scripts and written in green ink. With these plays he entertained local children in Devon, where he was living at the time (1897-1910). The Model, in collaboration with The Performing Arts Department, IT Sligo, has recreated a replica of the miniature theatre featured in the well-loved painting The Toy Theatre (1906) by Jack B Yeats, purchased for The Niland Collection in 1964. Come and join us at The Model on Culture Night and listen to the humorous tale of the mischievious witch Cití Cailleach, who loves everything black, but has some problems with her black cat Smúróg! 5-11 years. Children under 5 must be accompanied by parents/carers.
