Culture Night will focus on poetry, drama, prose and song: we celebrate the work of Frank O’Connor, William Shakespeare, Seán Ó Riada, Seán Ó Riordáin and Seán Ó Tuama, and welcome a new anthology of Cork poetry and song.

Culture Night in the City Library begins at 6pm with an event for children. A full programme continues from around 6:30pm:

Will’s Women by Chattyboo Productions

A short selection of scenes from William Shakespeare's plays featuring some of his greatest female characters, with Angela Newman and Judie Chalmers; directed by Judie Chalmers.

Frank O’Connor’s First Confession

Mary Fitzgerald will read one of Frank O’Connor’s best loved short stories.

Triúr Seán

A talk on the life and music of Seán Ó Riada by his son Peadar, along with poetry readings from the work of Seán Ó Riordáin and Seán Ó Tuama by Liam Heffernan agus an cheardlann scríbhneoireachta ‘Peann & Pár'.

On the Banks: Book Launch

The long awaited anthology On the Banks: Cork city in Poems and Songs, edited by Alannah Hopkins will be launched at 8pm by Cara O’Sullivan.  Expect a large gathering of poets and singers to help us bring this collection into the world!
